Founded in 2007, Sebastopol Community Acupuncture brought the Community Acupuncture model of open-room treatment to Sebastopol with the goal of providing the most affordable, accessible, licensed acupuncture to those who previously couldn’t afford the exclusive, boutique model of acupuncture.

In mid-2021, founder Barbara Chapman retired, passing the torch to new owner Derek Doss, who continues to help our community achieve their health goals by providing personalized, custom healing sessions tailored to your specific needs and implemented with expertise, patience, and care.

Derek Doss, L.Ac.

Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist

Born and raised in Sonoma County, Derek received a Master’s Degree in Chinese Medicine and a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Health Sciences at the East-West College of Natural Medicine in Sarasota, Florida. In 2009, Derek became a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in California.

Derek is committed to helping people achieve wellness of the body, mind, and spirit and making healthcare accessible to everyone. Since 2010, he’s performed over 30,000 community acupuncture treatments, helping people with stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, menopausal syndrome, chronic fatigue, allergies, and just about every kind of body pain.

Derek enjoys meditating, playing music, reading, and spending time with wife, Lindsay and their daughter, Willa.

Alan Sunbeam, L.Ac.

Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist

Alan Sunbeam, L.Ac. has been learning Traditional Chinese Medicine since 1974 when he met acupuncturist/herbalist S. Elliot Postol in Manhattan, NYC. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Holistic Healing Arts from Antioch University and in 1982 attended the San Francisco College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, passing the CA Licensing Exam in 1985, followed by 20 months of interning at TCM in hospitals and clinics in China in 1988. He’s been practicing acupuncture in California ever since.

amy sparrow, L.Ac.

Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist

Amy Sparrow, L.Ac. is a life-long learner who began informal training in Chinese medicine in 2000. She decided on school later, after finishing a career in raising a family and teaching music. She studied at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and became licensed in 2018; she had a thriving private practice and also started an ear-acupuncture-focused clinic serving residents of the Tenderloin in San Francisco. She earned her doctorate in 2022. Besides getting in the zone of offering acupuncture treatments and Chinese Herbal Medicine, she enjoys qi gong, forest walks, observing her 2 dogs, and playing music with others.
